Cee-Won X is a political rapper, songwriter, dancer, and singer. He began performing as a hip hop dancer in 2008 and would go on to battle against many B-boy crews and compete in local jams across the Houston, Texas area for years. In 2013, Cee-Won X released his first demo as a political rapper and founding member of the alternative rap group Sons of the Tongue. Cee grew up surrounded by music, which he believes led him to feel like an artist by nature. His father, uncle, and grandfather were all professional musicians and he spent the mid-1990s on the road with his father’s band.
Much like his father, Cee is a powerful singer who uses rock-influenced harmonies in his music to separate himself from many Houston-based rap acts. Cee is also a DJ who firmly believes in a “strictly vinyl” stance – meaning he doesn’t use any digital DJ equipment – and all music he uses is limited to the confines of his vinyl record collection. In 2015 Cee worked closely with producer Zachary Garren (formerly of the band Dance Gavin Dance) and released his eclectic album titled “The Excursion II: A Poet In the Land of Cruel Intentions,”’ in which Cee sings, raps, plays bass and guitar, and utilizes his DJ skills to make what many have considered an impressive work of honest art. He is praised for his energetic and engaging live performances where he often uses the opportunity in between songs to address to his audience issues of social justice and issues within hip hop culture. In July of 2016 Cee released a single for his song titled “World’s Gone Mad” on cassette through his own independent record label, Cee-Won X Music Group. Cee will be touring Texas and releasing an EP titled “Silence” in 2017.
